For over half his life now, Yogi has been going head-on into the music industry.
He started out quite humbly, learning piano as a child and then moving on to playing in cover bands as a teenager. By his early 20’s, he was hitting the stage in musicals around the circuit and by his mid to late 20’s, he was working regularly as a DJ, Keyboardist and budding Producer.
Currently Yogi is working full-time as a well respected Producer, Mix Engineer and DJ, alongside being the Singer and Keyboardist in “Random Soul” and Bass player in “Paul Winn Band”.
PRODUCTION…
Yogi and Random Soul have had a plethora of ep’s, singles and remixes released. Most notable releases to date have been the 2 ep’s on Salted Music SF (which reached number 1 on traxsource.com), top selling singles with Shifted Music NYC and club remixes for pop sensations Lady Ga-Ga and Keri Hilson feat Ne-Yo and Kanye West.
Alongside these, Jam Recordings asked Yogi to play an integral part in the release of their Hemmesphere 5 CD. He was asked to DJ mix CD2, to which he gladly accepted. He included 3 of his own productions and tracks from all of his favourite artists from Australia and across the world.
Yogi and Random Soul’s music has appeared on a stack of compilations from around the world too, including Hed Kandi’s “Beach House” CD, which was mixed and compiled by the duo in 2008 and featured a number of their productions.
2 albums from the Paul Winn Band are also notched on his belt, with Yogi playing an integral part as Co-Producer and Engineer for the albums, while also playing bass, doing all backing vocals and lending his ears with the Mastering too.
DJ…
Yogi’s first gig was at the infamous Globe Nightclub, playing his brand of deep, soulful house music. In the years following, he played and held residencies at all of Sydney’s premier venues (Home, Chinese Laundry, Tank) and major festivals such as Good Vibrations and Heinekin Thirst.
Internationally, Yogi has been heading to the Winter Music Conference in Miami for the last 3 years, alongside his partner-in-
crime, Husky. Yogi & Husky formed the House Music DJ/Production duo known as “Random Soul” back in the summer of 2005 in the hopes of bringing a new flavour to house music.
Currently, Yogi’s playlist has expanded into the realms of Funk & Soul, Disco & Boogie alongside the House music that he is known for. He holds weekly residencies at The IVY and The Argyle, along with monthly spots at Henry Afrikas, Opera Bar, Cohi Bar and Soda Bar, and regular spots around the country at Alhambra (Brisbane), Lott 33 and Minque (Canberra), Vodka Bar (Adelaide) and Q1 (Goldcoast).
The list of international artists Yogi has supported locally and abroad is also on the rise. This includes the “big guns” Roger Sanchez, Erick Morillo, Mousse T, Kaskade and Martin Solveig through to cream of the crop underground artists like Miguel Migs, Jay-J, Julius Papp, DJ MFR, Jamie Lewis, Ron Carroll, Bobby & Steve, Mark Grant, Albert Cabrera, Scott Wozniak, Sarah Main, Chris Lum, Swirl People, Lawnchair Generals… just to name a few.
THE FUTURE…
Is looking very bright for Yogi. His raw talent as a Vocalist, Keyboard and Bass player, alongside his ever evolving skills as a Producer and Engineer, he is sure to make bigger and bigger waves in the music industry… whatever the genre may be.
